Letter to parents, January 8, 1966
January 8, 1966
Dear Mom & Dad,
I wanted to write as soon as we got back so
that you'd know we arrived safe & all, but
I've been just so busy. Two weeks had piled
up an awful lot of dirt around here. Today
I think we finally got the scrubbing over with.
I did the windows & screens and the front door
(it's white on the outside) and Tom did the
kitchen and bathroom floors. Also did a load of
washinging & got it all ironed today.
You should see the ol' place now - it's looking
quite nifty. I put the brick contact in the
kitchen & it made a world of difference. Made
everything look warm & cozy. It sure would be
nice to someday have real brick in the kitchen!
Put the trim in the bathroom, too, but not
where I had planned. After experimenting
decided it looked best right up alongside the
ceiling. Only thing is, I've run out. Do you
think if you're ever up to the Goodwill you
could pick me up two more rolls - its called
"Classic". Don't make any special trip though -
I left off in the bathroom so that if I wouldn't
get any more border it would look fine as is.
The footstool looks just so pretty - it has a
permanent spot in the living room now, as does
your picture.
The sewing machine made the trip fine. It's
in the bedroom which gave that room an uplift.
- 2-
It was just so bare before.
All our new possesions are all so pretty. But
really none so useful as the vacuum. Already,
I've used everyone of the attachments! I've
swept all the floors, the walls, the ceilings, the
vents, the furniture & upholserty! Of all the
presents, it was just about the best. I use it
everyday & it's so convenient!
Not really much besides the big cleaning is new
down here. We went by school early this evening
& I talked to all my old buds. Can you get that
chicken salad recipe down to me?
Ok, we got a present yesterday. The Vasses (the
ones with the dish) sent us a place setting of
silver. Maybe when you and Daddy come down we
can have real silver for dinner - or, at least, one
of us can!
Tomorrow we're going to an antique sale - some
shop on Kearney St. is going out of business. Hope
we can find some good bargains.
We'll, I'm getting sleepy now and I still need to get my
bath. Write lots - I haven't cried at the dinner
table yet, but I still miss you. Take care.
Love,
Betty & Tom
P.S. Neither of us were exactly sure as to the
exact amount of the car payment, but I know
$59 will cover it.
