(All I have on the Hardy family)

The father of the Hardy family of this country was Elijah Hardy who settled
here before 1850. He owned the old Bunsemier place, just below Kurt
Koehn's, but he build his home on the George Knight place. The logs from
the old house may still be seen as they were used by George Knight for his
pig pen. He married ____ Hudson, sister of Con Hudson and Mrs. Jeremiah
King. They had 7 children:

I. Mat Hardy, b. _____ d. ______ who first settled the Silas Smith place,
north of Coffeyton. This location was called Mat's Valley for many years.
He was a Methodist minister and he early removed to California, Missouri.

II. William Hardy, who went to Texas about the time of the Civil War.

III. Henry Hardy, b.____ d.____; married Elizabeth Avery, daughter of Lewis
and Elizabeth Avery. They were the orioginal settlers of the Fred
Weisenborn place. His house stood on the hill near the old dairy barn. Near
the house was the family burying ground , the exact location of which is now
lost. Henry and two of his daughters are buried there. Hendry sold to
B.F.Smith when they arrived from South Carolina. The old Hardy home is
enclosed by the finer and larger present house. After selling, Henry Hardy
removed to the Rockwell farm. After his death, Harriet, his wife, removed
to Little Rock where she died at the home of her brother, James. Henry and
Harried Hardy were parents of at least four children:

1. William Hardy 2. Ed Hardy 3. Henry, who died young 4. Leona Hardy, who
married William Tucker. They had four sons.

IV. Henderson Hardy, b.____ d.____. He settled the Hardy farm across the
river. He was a Union soldier. He married (1) Martha Greenlea; (2) Nancy
(Greenlea) Paul, both daughters of David and Martha (Moutry) Greenlea, early
comers to Crawford County. Nancy, second wife, had first married Milton
Paul of Blue Springs. She had children by Paul, but none by Hardy.

V. Mary Hardy, married (as his second wife) George Cresswell, of Forest
Hill. (See p. )

VI. Elizabeth Hardy, married William Waters and they removed to Springfield,
Mo.

VII. Minerva Hardy, married Bill Sparks.
